The organization has been working in this area with an aim to minimize the impact of disaster on
livelihood security of vulnerable households. Some major activities of this area which USS has
done are; formation and follow up the disaster management committee at village-union and upazila
level, formation of vulnerable group at union level, organize disaster preparedness and
management training, preparing disaster contingency plan, risk and rescue mapping, organize
awareness campaign on disaster issue, coordination meeting with GO and NGOs, organize training
for staff on first aid and rescue and so on.
USS implemented several projects on disaster preparedness and management in Saghata and
Fulchari upazilas of Gaibandha district among one of them is “Construction of flood shelter” with
the help of NETZ Bangladesh since 2007-2008 in Saghata and Fulchari upazila. Under this project,
USS constructed 18 flood shelter in Saghata and Fulchari upazila and worked for rehabilitation of
the flood affected people in the char land. USS also arranged several trainings for the Char land
on Disaster preparedness and Management. Under this project USS also organized free health
camp for the flood affected people.
