Background of the organization
Udayan is registered with the Department of Social Welfare in 1991 and with NGO Affairs Bureau
USS started its journey back in 1979 in the Saghata Sub-district of Gaibandha in Bangladesh. As a non-profit organization, USS has been working with the poor, disadvantaged, marginalized people and communities especially rural women to achieve sustainable development in remote rural areas. The organization is established around an event. The current executive director of the organization, while a student, saw an elite man in the village beating an innocent poor helpless family and harassing them by the police. Then the director along with some friends proved to the police that the poor and helpless family was innocent and later the police released the family. The Executive Director and the founder of USS realized from the incident that injustice can be protested in the society if everyone is in alliance, and the only way to be in this alliance is to stay organized. From that realization, USS started its first journey on 18 May 1979.
Working experience of USS
To date, USS has implemented over 55 development projects in the mentioned areas of below mostly funded by foreign donors and international aid Agencies
USS has experienced that working directly with the women has greatly contributed to the process of livelihood, security and development of the rural poor and disadvantaged people in the community. USS has also worked experience on migrations. Several time USS conducts workshop and Seminar on Migrations. Thus, USS has membership with Bangladesh Migration Development Form.

Objectives
- Develop people’s organization of rural disadvantaged women and to empower them to lead the processes of Swabolombee Gram (self-reliant village).
- Promote grassroots movement with spontaneous and active participation of the rural disadvantaged people to access and utilize compulsory primary education opportunities and services for their children with a goal of combating illiteracy and to build conscious and capable citizens for “tomorrow”
- Empower people and alleviating poverty through Improved Access to Livelihood Information
- Promote social movement for the protection of rights of the children, Person with Disability, especially the disadvantaged, with their active participation.
- Promote income and employment opportunity of the poor and hard-core poor people.
- Promote community-based health action approach to materialize the available services more effectively.
- Increase the capacity of community people for reducing disaster risk and losses.
- Promote prevention of environmental degradation through awareness, education and capacity building of community to safeguard environmental well-being and adapt to climate change impacts, organize social movement for safe environment.
- Promote and Establish gender equity and equality at all levels.
- Support sustainable livelihoods practices in the remote char areas.
- Ensure the accountability and transparency of service providing organization for better services.
